Why do some of these college football coaches run off the field led by a state trooper?

Guthrum asked:

I have noticed that at the end of some college football games, the coaches rush off of the field led by a state trooper. Why is this? Is it because of 9/11? Or are they in a rush to get home and watch figure skating on tv?

I think it is for security reasons if fans rush onto the field or something. I guess you can never be too careful in this day and age.

To some extent, to protect them from worshiping fans, but primarily because in major college football, scum bag lunatics EVERY GAME threaten the life of pretty much EVERY coach. So there is actual physical peril, albeit most of those imbeciles are just the usual nitwit windbags.
