Mr. DJ asked:

Ok I have never really watched college football and every once in a while I hear that somebody walked on. What does that mean? Is it a full ride sholarship? What does it mean when somebody does not walk on?

A walk-on is someone that does not have a scholarship. They are enrolled at the school and decided that they want to play. By showing up at practice, if they are good enough to earn a spot on the team, they will be considered a walk on player.

Actually, a walk-on would be someone who walked on the practice field and told teh coach he wanted to play…NOT someoen who was recruited by the school and offered a scholarship.

Although walk ons will find themselves typically relegated to the practice squad, there are examples of them playing at very high levels with varied success, up to and including being drafted by NFL teams. For example, Jake Scott, a starting guard for the Indianapolis Colts, was a walk on at the University of Idaho.
