What are the odds of a great Division 1-AA college football player getting drafted in the NFL?

My nephew wants to play in the NFL and is attending a college with a division 1-AA football team. I just wanted to see if he would have a shot at getting drafted, he is really good (a high school standout). So far he has put up really impressive numbers at the wide receiver position. He is a sophmore if it helps. We are all pulling for him to make it!

The odds aren’t very good, but 1-AA kids get drafted every year so if he’s good he will make it

Many AA athletes have been drafted into the NFL. And some have done well. Even with that said I wouldn’t have him pin all his hopes on making the NFL. Many great college careers have meant nothing once you’re in the NFL.

sorry the chances aren’t good because if he was really good in high school then how come he isn’t playing in division 1A I doubt he has a good chance at it but they do give players a chance to show off their stuff at the columbine before the draft

chances are very good if he can play every year the NFL drafts a number of college kids from the lower divisions the scouts leave no stone unturned when looking for talent whoever had heard of jerry rice before the 49ers stole him

There are a few players in the NFL that played 1-AA ball. The one that stands out is Patrick Crayton of the Dallas Cowboys. He went to a small College in Tonkawa OK. Your Nephews chances are probably better if he gets recognized by a major university, but anything can happen.

I’d say his odds are pretty good

Just look at the great names in the NFL that came out of Division 1-AA…Tony Romo and Jerry Rice just to name a couple.

Just keep cheerin him on, and hope that an NFL team comes to their senses and drafts him.

the odds are good, but he’ll probably be between a 5-7 round pick

London Fletcher, the linebacker for the redskins was a division 3 player and you see how good he’s doing

1-AA schools get looked at less, but if they have one standout leader on that team, that person might get drafted.

Out of the 7 rounds in the NFL draft, there are probably 15-20 players from 1-AA drafted, maybe 3 -5 make a team and maybe 1 every year becomes a standout. He would have to really stand out and probably run under a 4.6 and be at least 6′2

truthfully, the division you play in isnt too much of a deciding factor although you see mainly d 1 kids getting drafted. thats because they have the media coverage, the known name, and the big school!! but there are NFL players from all 4 divisions of NCAA 1,1-AA,2,3…..i play d-2 and i have seen nfl scouts come and meet a couple of our seniors. so its all about his work ethic and the stats he makes for himself on the field. so i cant say he has as great of a chance to make it to the nfl as a stand out d-1 kid but he has just as much of a shot as any one else in college football as long as he puts forth the time and effort to get better and play to his full potential.

Look at Vincent Jackson of the Chargers. This guy is on the brink of breaking through to the next level as a star and he is from a 1-AA team. Good luck to your nephew, hopefully he’ll have the drive and work hard to get there.

In division 1-AA, he would have to make some noise come draft time, and have a pretty impressive combine in order for him to get noticed
