I’m 19 years old and I’ve just graduate from high school. I’m planning to walk on to try out for a college football team. My football time didn’t turn out so well becuase in my time in high school and before then I only played my 9th grade(which was my first year and being the waterboy most of the season) and my 12th grade year(which was my second year but at a different school and I was also on special teams). I wanted to play football ever since the little league but I couldn’t due to family problems. I’m planning on playing defensive end and linebaker. Right now I about 5′11/6′0 and weight about 205 lbs. It seems real big for a lot of people thought but the people I might be facing in college is three times bigger than me for the position I planning to play. What do I need to eat or do to get bigger for what I’m about to do even if it’s by height or weight?

i would look to gain 30 lbs. the best things to do to contribute are

lifting, upper and lower body but make sure you dont lift every day. Every other day is good or legs one day and upper body the next. make sure you challenge yourself

drink at least one proten drink a day. it will energize you for your workout and help muscle gains.

eat alot of nutriotous food. You only want the best thins for you like meat veggies and fruits, lots of carbs too.

i believe your height and size is nearly perfect for a defensive back…but you can still might need 10 pounds of musle. And trust me don’t take steroids. The obvious reason is health problems later on your life but also if you get caught you probably would get kicked of the team.

Also i find it helpfull when i get up in the moring and pump iron.

First thing is…you contact the coach.

Find out what’s expected of you for tryouts.
Players have begun to practice…they may already be involved in three a days. If you were to start working out with them…you’ll grow and get bigger.

you are NOT real big…I played freshman year at 6′4, 240 pounds
and I was the smallest linebacker.

If you don’t contact the coach you may be in for an unpleasant suprise…or worse…you won’t make the team.

If you don’t play this year, ask the coach what classes are offered to help you stay involved…the two I taught were Advanced Physical Conditioning for Collegiate Athletes and American Football

better hussle up

- I coached NCAA Div III for a few years…
coach semi-pro now
