Gabe asked:

Im really interested in doing football for Tex AM although i didnt do football in highschool, only junior high. Do they hold yearly tryouts for football? How hard would you say it is to play for a college football team?

Usually all teams, even pro teams hold open tryouts for anyone and everyone, although it is a lot harder.

You can do it man. If you think you got game then go for it! Like the 1st answer said, they hold try-outs for everyone but it is gonna be toughter since you haven’t played since Jr. High.

well, im not gonna lie, if you didnt do football in high school, then you will have a very very hard time trying to play college. The speed is like no other. as a sophmore in highschool, i have improved from just one year in highschool, but im not up there yet. Skill takes time to develop. If you have a passion for the game, and have a good work ethic, then try and walk on to the team, and try to make the cut. If you dont make it you can atleast say you tried.

You must be an exceptional athlete to play at a Legit Division 1 school like Texas AM. You do have one thing on your side. They can take a first year player and designate him as a redshirt freshman. That means he is not eligilble to play that year but he practices with the team and learns the system and lifts weights and prepares for next year. The redshirt year does not count as your freshman year and you still have 4 years of eligibility.

Yeah, most colleges allow walk-ons, but it’s not easy. I mean, D-1A football is intense, those are great athletes who are devoted, and have been since high school. Most people can’t do it. I play in D-III football and you have to really want it to make that kind of time commitment and work really hard, and, honestly, some level of God-given talent to make it at this level, and the D-1 level is some 100 times more intense.
